It was a rough start, as K-Roll forgot to tell me to not let off the clutch all the way until it started rolling. But after the first ten minutes things got pretty smooth. Only played with 1st, 2nd, and Reverse though.

Here a pic from K-Rolls 911

You’re going to need all the gears eventually. Congrats. I had a couple of people try to teach me back in the day, and it wasn’t until I spent an hour or so in a parking lot learning the friction point for myself that I got the hang of it. But there’s a fine line between not popping the clutch and riding it. Get it going, then get off the clutch, and don’t rest your foot on it.

Congrats! The best advice Ive given people when I teach them is to not treat the clutch pedal as an on/off switch.

I spent a couple hours with an SVT Mustang 5 or 6 years ago trying to learn how to use a clutch. Had a motorcycle for a year a couple years ago, so I have since had experience with the theory and mechanics of using a clutch, but a hand clutch is not like a foot actuated clutch. Couple weeks ago, I took the dive and bought my first non-parental assisted car purchase and got a Civic Si. So I literally just threw myself into the frying pan. You pick it up really quick when you don’t have any other option.

Another thing I’ve learned (and believe me, I still have a long way to go) is that I’m much smoother when I don’t think about it and just let it happen. When you’re thinking about it, you’re trying too hard and will mess up. But then again, you have to get the basics down first.

Good on you and keep it up!

Nice! You’ll have a lot more fun with more pedals. It is a good skill to learn though.

Awesome! I taught my wife to drive stick a few years ago on our new Passat Wagon. She’s learned to love it and the wagon has 110K on the original clutch and still holding! It was a while before it became second nature to her.

I “mastered” driving stick in my first car, a ‘72 MGB. It had a hydraulic clutch that would leak and many times I would lose the clutch while driving. I quickly learned how to speed match the engine to the road and slide it into the right gear without a clutch. When I had to stop, I would shut the engine off, put it in 1st gear, then hit the starter when it was time to go... then ease it from gear to gear and turn it off again at the next stop! That thing had a fantastic starter motor!

Congrats. You just have to remember to clutch in when rolling to a stop. My daughter forgot this a few times, but she drove us to her school a few times.

I’ve always been taught to do that. Hopefully I’ll learn how to change gears quickly so I can avoid killing the clutch on everything manual I drive someday (all cars at home are auto)...

Congrats! I only passed my driver’s license test in a manual Perodua Kelisa yesterday - I bet the 911’s clutch pedal gives you a better feel of things than the Kelisa’s...
